Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page
Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!
I'm currently attempting to write a platonic Hanahaki fic, so I've been looking up different flowers and their meanings. The last website I was on was Alamanc - Flower Meanings, though the website itself is based off The Farmer's Almanac and has other information, such as gardening tips and recipes.
new year, same bull
Jan. 8th, 2026 06:37 pmHappy new year! How can 2026 only be a week old? It feels like Christmas and winter break was months ago.
Christmas was delightful, time away from work was delightful, new years eve games with friends was delightful, ending 2025/starting 2026 with the Stranger Things finale was delightful. I found it very satisfying--for me, it was a ten year wrap up that took care to feel wrapped up. I can picture a lot of happy lives for them all, but there's also still room for fics.
Less delightful is that Dad's pre-cardioversion echo showed a new heart problem, a ventricular strain, which often causes a-fib, which it has. And research seems to show that the two together lead to poor heart prognosis. And then on top of it, the valve that they repaired three years ago failed and is leaking again. Only when dad went to the cardiologist this week, he didn't ask questions and he says that the doctor didn't say anything about it, just that dad can decide to still do the cardioversion if he wants to. But why did that go from yes to can do it? What are the risks? What are the benefits? Part of his symptoms is memory issues, so has he forgotten parts of the discussion? Doctor appointments can have a lot of information given at once. I think mom is working on questions and maybe a second appointment to talk things over.
I started my new PsA med last weekend, which I'm excited and hopeful for. But in the meantime, while it builds in my system, it's barely better than no meds. Add in a delay on my estrogen and progesterone and I am sore, slow, tired, and sluggish. I had to take the afternoon off today because I didn't have the energy to move. Luckily the e&p came in, so I can pick it up tomorrow. I hope it helps.
I bundled some streaming together, added HBO, and am now paying less for 3 than I was for 2. \o/ Which means that I binged Heated Rivalry on Saturday, and again Tuesday night when trying to distract myself from Dad's health. I liked it a lot the first go around, but I really struggled with figuring out the timeframe for each episode and how little they used the names of most teammates. When I had it down for the second viewing, I liked it even more, and caught a lot more, too. A lot of the writers I follow have started writing HR fic, too, which I'm delighted by. There's a lot to catch and analyze--I really like Veronica Vee on Insta, who does deep dives into the directing and staging.
9-1-1 starts tonight, and I'm less enthused than usual. The first part of the season was rough, without a lot of character beats and without a lot of team bonding, and I really miss those aspects. Maybe things will be more even for this next set.
Tonight is also the premiere of The Pitt season 2, and I'm excited to watch that with the fam this weekend. Mel!!!!
There is a rally about ice/minneapolis/our town right now, just outside the library, and periodically there will be loud roars and cheers. It's pouring rain, so they're under our overhang instead of in the park, and I am curious about the turnout. But not curious enough to expend any energy walking to that side of the room, ha.
Let's see what I can accomplish tonight that requires little to no brain power or energy!
snowflake challenge #3

Challenge #3:
Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.
Where do I even start? Fandom has been such a big part of my life and even when I thought I left, I seem to keep finding my way back and don't have any regrets over that. I remember discovering FFN and then LJ and creating my own in 2007. How weirdly nervous I felt about writing my first fanfic because while I used to write stories as a kid, I felt exposed and self conscious since it was my first time dealing with established characters and also my first fic happened to be m/m. I was 19, fairly sheltered growing up, and a lot naive. Smallville was a big fandom but I felt really welcomed. Sure, I landed myself in some drama now and then, and have said/done things that I wish I hadn't, but I made so many friends. Had way more wonderful, meaningful interactions, than ugly ones. Got to try things and learn things that I wouldn't have thought to if I hadn't joined in on fandom. Improved my writing naturally with practice. Got some great feedback - both kind and useful, over the years.
I was mostly in the one fandom so when the show ended, I gradually grew away from it, and life getting busier coincided with it. I did go back to reading fanfic but I thought I was done writing it. Until 2020. When the pandemic started and I began WFH, I suddenly felt the urge to write. Not just write but for my original fandom (Smallville), for my original ship (Clark/Oliver). I didn't know how I would fit in anymore or how to make friends. I felt like I was worse at it than I was back then.
But fandom may have changed, in look, in pace, in location, but it was still as welcoming as ever. I was able to reconnect with old friends. Find new friends. And even in recent times, get closer to a friend because of our shared fandom/ship! I got to run an AO3-based exchange (
I know I'll always be a little withdrawn - after all these years, I'm still shy about giving my real name online, but the people here have been supportive and accepting of the parts I'm willing to share. The community aspect and how all of us, so different from each other, and in various places all around the globe, can connect and meet and talk to people we would've never run into otherwise. It's a gift. It brings me joy. And I'm so glad I can be apart of it. I hope I can continue to be for as long as possible. :)

I'm not particularly great with linking, but I do have some cool ones here and there. Forest's Warden is probably my favourite alvaluca fics. I love it a lot.
I also love going through Neocities all the time, though I think to do that properly you do have to have an account. It's always fun to find interesting sites to look at.
Not quite 365 days meme questions
Jan. 8th, 2026 12:25 amI don't have very many good feelings about school. I had some good teachers but had very few friends. I was so shy. It was really sad. I had things going on in my life that I couldn't get away from. When I met my husband it was like the first person I could ever talk to. I'm very grateful for his help. Because of his guidance, I got some great therapy. I really came out of my shell. I'm glad I met my hubby at school but I was glad to be done with it. Well, this was pretty boring. 😂

Jan. 8th, 2026 05:51 pmWeirdest part is that it came from a registered user. I tried to make a report, but it was already deleted by the time I had a chance to read the email, and I think someone else might have already reported the account? Hopefully the Policy & Abuse team is able to sort it out.

Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom
Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!
I don't have any pets of my own. Dogs are cute, but ever since I was a kid, I was more into cats. However, my parents didn't want a pet and to be honest, I'm self aware enough to know that I wouldn't be able to take care of one. The first apartment we lived in when we moved to California was nice in the sense that there were other people with pets my sister and I could play with. Our upstairs neighbor had four cats and two dogs! They were all very sweet.
My favorite fictional pet is definitely Salem from Sabrina The Teenage Witch. That sarcastic cat was really funny and definitely one of the best parts of the show. I also have a soft spot for Luna from Sailor Moon. I watched Homeward Bound way too many times and I love all three of them but Sassy was the best.
And of course, Shelby from Smallville (see icon). That dog was adorable and I was always happy when they let him pop in. He literally saved Clark's life! And he had good taste, because he liked Lois right away, even when Lois was ... apprehensive. My sister still calls him "Clarkie" though!
As far as my current fandom goes, I'm not trying to fall into stereotypes but I do stand by the belief that they should let Buck get a dog (so close in s8!) and Eddie get a cat. It would be adorable. :)
